Where Passion Meets Thought

Mathieson poem: We have come to be danced

Posted by omohundro on September 18, 2007

We have come to be danced

Not the pretty dance

Not the pretty pretty, pick me, pick me dance

But the claw our way back into the belly

Of the sacred, sensual animal dance

The unhinged, unplugged, cat is out of its box dance

The holding the precious moment in the palms

Of our hands and feet dance.

We have come to be danced

Not the jiffy booby, shake your booty for him dance

But the wring the sadness from our skin dance

The blow the chip off our shoulder dance.

The slap the apology from our posture dance.

We have come to be danced

Not the monkey see, monkey do dance

One two dance like you

One two three, dance like me dance

but the grave robber, tomb stalker

Tearing scabs and scars open dance

The rub the rhythm raw against our soul dance.

We have come to be danced

Not the nice, invisible, self-conscious shuffle

But the matted hair flying, voodoo mama

Shaman shakin’ ancient bones dance

The strip us from our casings, return our wings

Sharpen our claws and tongues dance

The shed dead cells and slip into

The luminous skin of love dance.

We have come to be danced

Not the hold our breath and wallow in the shallow end of the floor dance

But the meeting of the trinity, the body breath and beat dance

The shout hallelujah from the top of our thighs dance

The mother may I?

Yes you may take 10 giant leaps dance

The olly olly oxen free free free dance

The everyone can come to our heaven dance.

We have come to be danced

Where the kingdom’s collide

In the cathedral of flesh

To burn back into the light

To unravel, to play, to fly, to pray

To root in skin sanctuary

We have come to be danced

We have come.

This is absolutely one of the most moving, kinetically energetic, life forcing poems I’ve read in years and years and years. And the rest of the ones I had time to read here are inspiring, to say the least. Thank you for this splendid read tonight.

    Janet,

I’m so glad you like it! And I’m amazed you found my newly birthed site so quickly. Your poetmeister page looks wonderful.

    Jewel is a great poet:

and is quite involved with the 5 Rhythms dance. More of her poetry also appears in Gabrielle Roth’s gem of a book: “Connections, The Five Threads of Intuitive Wisdom”.

Gabrielle says: “I remember the first time Jewel burst into my vision – liquid motion, raw passion. Her poetry rocks! In her surrender, I have seen god with my own ears.”

I’m like a heat-seeking missile for excellent poetry. heh heh

I can’t tell you how happy I am to be introduced to Jewel Mathieson’s poetry. Now, I must go check out the link you provided and swoon again. Some rare ether, that. I hope you don’t mind if I link to your site and share my good fortune with my readers.

And please feel welcome to come to my site and give me some constructive criticism. It’s the only way to whittle away the crap. I think I b*mbed with Ode to Maggie because of its length. It’s the longest piece I’ve written and would love to get some feedback on whether it works.

    Do you also write poetry?

Just an aside: I once knew a ME man named Kabir who was some sort of psychic. He told me when I was a young pup that I should not marry until I’ve dated 10 men. He said that way I’ll have learned about the 10 personalities attributable to men and would be able to make a wise choice based on my experience with the different types. Far out, huh? I also liked the Kabir poem, I’ve burned my own house down.
